Activity Overview
Cataracts are the leading cause of treatable vision loss in the United States, with approximately 4 million people undergoing cataract surgery annually. In patients with concurrent astigmatism, use of a toric intraocular lens (IOL) during cataract surgery is a safe and highly effective intervention with a relatively fast postoperative recovery. However, given the myriad of IOLs on the market, appropriate patient selection and knowledge of the available products is essential for delivering the highest quality patient-centered care.
This Community Practice Connections™ program provides an in-depth review of some of the key highlights from a live symposium presented at the EnVision 2025 Summit held in February. This unique and engaging multimedia activity is ideal for the community-based clinician and focuses on the practical aspects of managing patients with cataracts and coexisting astigmatism, putting recent clinical trial data into clinical context. The program is designed for those who did not attend the live meeting and to help reinforce learnings for those who did.
Target Audience
This live educational activity is directed toward ophthalmologists, optometrists, and other eye care professionals.
Learning Objectives
Upon successful completion of this activity, you should be better prepared to:
- Differentiate between available IOL products with respect to materials technology and design
- Identify patients with astigmatism who are appropriate candidates for IOL surgery
- Select appropriate IOLs based on patient presentation and goals of therapy
